Nik's Take: Video Will Always Be In Demand
In high school I could be categorized as more as a vidiot than a computer geek. The rush of producing a live cable-access TV variety show with my goof-ball friends even outweighed my interest in computers.
In college I majored in video production at SUNY Fredonia, and minored in Art. With a degree in TV/Video there weren’t too many choices in Western NY, and I found TV a difficult field to break into.
My first job after college was at the local NBC affiliate where I learned much, but hated the union pay-scale and grueling rotating shifts. My friends in “new media” seemed to be doing so much better for themselves, and their creativity could be seen by the entire world. After Sept 11th 2001, I was laid off and changed my focus to Information Technology.
I thought TV/Video was behind me and that I should have been focusing on IT to begin with. However, in the last few years the technology has improved and video is all over the web. More people have high bandwidth connections and client expectations have risen. Today I’m using my art/video background again as I develop interactive video on demand courses for international companies.
